Build-Up On Social Media To Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix


The new Formula 1 season is about to hit top gear with the season's opening race at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Triple World Champion Lewis Hamilton is the favourite to clinch his third Australian Grand Prix but local Aussie hope Daniel Ricciardo (pictured above) is ready to spoil the party and create history as the first Australian to win the Australian GP on home soil.

Hamilton though, is hosing down talk of another Mercedes whitewash, instead talking up the chances of Sebastian Vettel and rivals Ferrari.

Two of the most sought after drivers off the track have been Red Bull teammates Daniel Ricciardo and 19-year-old Belgian-Dutch teammate Max Verstappen.

The pair have been swamped by F1 and Red Bull fans whenever they've taken their foot off the pedal and stepped away from the track.

Verstappen is aiming for his maiden pole position and if the teenager can achieve that, he’ll become the youngster driver to do so and the first Dutchman to snare pole position.

Ricciardo is on track to set a new points record and has finished in the points in his last 17 races. Kimi Raikkonen holds the all-time points record after finishing in the points in 27 consecutive races in 2012-2013.

Not surprisingly, the Aussie's merchandise stall has proven to be the most popular stall amongst fans at the race circuit.

As drivers test their cars around the Albert Park street circuit, trackside fans have been soaking in the sights and sounds of F1 cars going full throttle around the Melbourne track.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel looms as a championship contender and the former world champ will be hoping he can replicate the lighting start he made at last year’s Australian Grand Prix.

Unibet is also revving up its involvement with Formula 1 and has a signed a sponsorship deal with Finnish Formula 1 legend, Mika Hakkinen, who won the Australian Grand Prix in 1998.

The ‘Flying Finn’ is a two-times former World Champion after capturing the Driver’s Championship in 1998 and 1999.
